It's time I introduced myself.

How I got here, and a note about Lunation's future.

It's time I introduced myself.

Hi! It's been a minute. When I started this project I didn't want to do a lot of meta-commentary, but it's time I introduce myself to give context to this blog's future.

I'm Jackson. I'm 28. I live in Oregon with my wife and cat. He/him. Leo. Sony.

My parents work in magazines, so growing up I developed a love for the whole stack: photography, writing, graphic design. I chose to pursue film production, got a degree, and now I work doing a bit of everything in media. But along the way my interests took me on many detours, starting little projects and designing things.

Over the years I'd reshuffle my brands, and my YouTube channel swapped a few times between my name (Jackson Casimiro) and my company's (Lunation Lab). In this most recent era it's been Lunation, covering design topics, and accompanied by this blog & newsletter.

I'm looking at things differently now. The last Lunation was more a reflection of my interest to practice design as part of my career, but I've spread myself thin for years on half-finished projects, learning new skills that don't build towards a clear goal.

It's good that I'm passionate about all kinds of things. Design and film, but also outdoors, food, bikes, soccer, fantasy, history, maps. I also have strong convictions like empathy for others and respect for the planet. It's all spun into one thing, my perspective. And that's my biggest asset for my actual career making media.

So I'm turning the chapter to a more "editorial" approach.

So I'm turning the chapter to a more "editorial" approach. My design ethos isn't going anywhere; it's just one part of a bigger mission to tell you stories from my perspective. I'll cover whatever I'm interested in, anything I find cool or fun. I'll publish deeper projects like feature articles and films, but also share what I'm up to, and even dabble in fiction. To reflect this I'll likely rebrand back to my name or something closer, like Casimiro Cafe.

I understand you probably found yourself here from a home-DIY video. You're looking for the "Jump to Recipe" button. But I'd greatly appreciate if you stick around and hang out. We'll have a good time.

Talk to y'all soon.

What to Expect

  • I'll cover a broader array of subjects from my point of view.
  • I'll publish higher-end editorial work, like articles and films.
  • I'll publish more often.
  • I'll likely rebrand this to my name or something close.

If you want to preview my style as a filmmaker and photographer, you can see my portfolio site.
