Screen Test: Dehancer Film Emulation
A little project I shot to test out Dehancer’s fairly advanced film emulation for Davinci Resolve.
Dehancer
Film emulation accessible to indie filmmakers in the early days of digital video was a bit crude. You could apply some ugly .LUT, and overlay some film grain. Fast forward to Dehancer, an advanced plugin that offers true-to-life film emulation with color, grain, bloom, halation, and more. It works right in Davinci Resolve, and is all based on real film stocks.
Screen Test
I picked up a license for the tool, and went out with some friends to shoot a little screen test. This is based on the film stock Astrum Color Negative 125.
The Details
There is a disappointing reality to film emulation on the internet: compression. Compression on the internet really nukes the character of the film grain. It takes more data to show that texture than just average something like the sky to fewer colors. But you can see how good the emulation is in still photos. Zoom in.
